Manifesto
FinBodhi aims to be a tool for your financial journey.
Built with
privacy, longevity, and data access in mind.
The Problem
There are enough financial apps for you to choose from. From simple, specific but invasive, to powerful and complicated. One end of the spectrum gives you very little control, the other requires significant effort to use and maintain. And most are about specific specific tasks like expense-tracking, or net-worth, or portfolio performance, or future planning etc.
Our Vision
Thinking about a users financial journey, leads to a different kind of product. It has to work from when you are focused on expense tracking, to when you are living off of your assets. FinBodhi is designed to support these use-cases. Here is a peak into our thinking.
Privacy: Your data should be owned by you. This led to us deciding on local-first. Which means, your data is available on your device. And encrypted with your key, while it travels between your devices. Which means we don't have access to data. And when rare issues happen, we need your help to debug it. But it frees you from worrying about your data being passed on to someone else.
Double-Entry: How do you value a house? You have to track all movements of cash around it. E.g. initial investment, maintenance, rent, and then sale, all across different accounts. Double-entry allows you to represent these varied cash flows, get the worth of the asset, and more. The control and flexibility it gives you, is worth the effort of learning it (which we will help you with).
Full Control: You can't trust a software if you can't trust its owners. It's one of the reasons we won't get funding, and keep the team small. We will keep working on gaining your trust. Like, never blocking you from your data. In fact, if you have set up backup, you have all your data (in JSON format).
In short, we aim for FinBodhi to be a software that you can trust and use throughout your financial journey. Given the scope, it will take time to be feature complete, but we already have a usable version.
Help us shape the future of FinBodhi with your feedback.
